The UN’s next push for power Written by Reid Rosenthal on November 16, 2015 · Have a comment? The UN’s next push for power Friend, UN internationalists are hungry for more money and more power. Their next big thing? Sustainability. That’s the new buzzword to watch out for. If you liked “climate change,” you’ll love “sustainable development.” It has the emotional appeal to give the Left whatever it wants, without the bothersome disprovable science. CFACT senior policy analyst Bonner Cohen reports that at the UN’s recent meeting in Manhattan it “set 17 ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ and no fewer than 169 targets – all of which are to be implemented by 2030… In keeping with previous UN declarations, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development contains the standard boiler-plate references to the importance of eradicating ‘gender inequality,’ promoting ‘human rights of all,’ favoring ‘strengthened global solidarity,’ and the like. Cohen also reports on the World Health Organization’s move to go after “high greenhouse gas” foods in advance of the UN climate summit in Paris. “Ranches and farms that raise cattle, pigs, sheep, etc. are now seen as posing a threat to the climate and public health. Like fossil fuels, they, too, must be demonized and targeted for the damage they are doing to the planet.” Every left-wing and politically correct interest group wants in on “climate change” and “sustainability”— behaving like militant vegans lining up to get a slice of UN tofu pie. Politically correct science and economics are anathema to the individual freedom that has lifted billions out of poverty and created the highest living standards the world has ever known. It is important to understand the true agendas behind the UN’s feel-good buzzwords.
